EB-5 Investor US Visas

Here is an idea if you got money and want to go to the US. Invest there and apply for the EB-5 visa.  Its the quickest and easiest way to get a green card and live and work in the US.  But the capital you will need for the business is half a million. That's about what a house in Toronto costs.

There is a lineup for those visas:

The rage of watching US TV from Canada through the internet

About 1/3 of people are using VPN to access content outside their country by masking their IP so that they are accessing from that country.

http://o.canada.com/technology/internet/how-to-hide-your-online-identity-with-a-vpn-service

The most common and popular VPN services that don’t keep records currently are Private Internet Access, TorGuard, IPVanish, BTGuard and VikingVPN.

Netflix does not have a stand on it because they are making money from outside their own country anyway. Why block a new stream of revenue from Canada?

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/netflix-geoblocking-in-canada-a-game-of-whack-a-mole-1.2890915

Now recently Bell wants to crack down on it. I like it how cbc calls it 'stealing'. Not really.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/bell-media-president-says-using-vpns-to-skirt-copyright-rules-is-stealing-1.3099972

Bell and Rogers both own the most expensive and failing franchise in the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Trying to gouge customers with their high bills to consumers is all for financing this horrible team.

Evidently, for those stuck in the US who misses Canadian content , there is no complaints for us if we were to use the VPN to watch Canadian content..woo hoo!

Iphone/Itouch: How to get free US apps on a Canadian iPhone/iTouch

These instructions show how you can access and download apps from the US using a Canadian Iphone. Once download it will retain on your iphone indefinitely with all your other apps.

1) Plan to travel in the US and at least spend a couple of hours to find and purchase apps. You should find a fast wifi connection in the US when doing this before travelling. Or you have to do some exploring to find fast and free wifi. Hotels are not fast, but convention halls, libraries and Mcdonalds or Starbucks are.
2) Travel to the US and buy an itunes $10 gift card or more. One can find this at a Best Buy, Walmart or Target US store. Any amount will do but only that amount can be spent in the iTunes store in the US. You cannot transfer leftover amounts.
3) Find your fast free wifi area in the US. Change the country of your itunes store here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6119
4)  When prompted to enter a payment method enter gift card, then enter the code from the gift card.
5) If prompted for an address ,enter your current US address, such as your hotel where you are staying at.
6) When all is done, your country is changed. You can now browse free apps and find some to purchase to make the gift card amount almost to $0.00. If you can't make it to $0.00 you will have to forfeit the leftover amount when you switch back to Canada.

8) Have apple support clear the balance amount to 0.00. Tell them the reason you want it 0.00 is you want to switch countries.

From Apple:
You can't change your account's country when you have a balance on it. If you can't spend it then you can try contacting iTunes support and ask if they can remove the balance for you : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

You can email apple support, they get back quickly within 1 day.

Check your balance while in the US to see if the balance went to 0.00. You can still do step #8 from Canada too.

9) When you return to Canada,  follow step #3, and step#4 to enter your own Canadian credit card, or another Canadian bought itunes gift card, your Canadian address and you will switch back to Canada. All the apps you download should be kept on your iPhone.
10) Backup the apps to your home pc by running the sync and connecting your Iphone.
11) If you delete the US apps from your iPhone you may not be able to get them back again without doing the above steps.

Update

Geoblocking now exists for Iphone apps...I can't use some Canadian apps in the US and even when I prevent the GPS from finding my location the app still finds me.  The reverse for some apps in the US also may not work in Canada like running Netflix US on your phone in Canada....so beware. There are some VPN for iPhone out there and that might circumvent the location.

Current state of the economy

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/falling-loonie-means-just-more-milking-of-canadian-consumers-neil-macdonald-1.2513237

Currently the loonie is falling amidst somewhat so so economic news in the US. Still no reason why its falling but it just give more reason to look at this blog to see why. Its a more competitive marketplace and there are more consumers to fight over. The landscape in Canada is becoming to be like that with the additions of Target. However it is still not to have much affect on prices but it gives some better choices and options.

Target and big US names see how Canada's marketplace is not so competitive so they put their prices in line with the rest of the Canadian stores. As here in the US the better deals can be found in the weekly flyers so one only needs to get their circular and flyers from their bottom floor of their building, or check the internet for deals.
